Riverbeds

The riverbed works explore Scacco’s active relationship with memory and place. This is the source of a divide: the ultimate in-between space, not belonging to one side or the other, yet defining land as north, south, east or west. It is the mother of the boundary, both source and destination; continually burying and washing away, enabling both erosion and regeneration.

Every action made by the artist is evident in these works. Beginning by plotting the high and low points of a significant personal geographic boundary, a restricted palette of paint is sprayed until eventually the points organically join together. As with our memories, every moment, every action is logged; much buried beneath the surface, existing only as an influence of tone or texture. The language then traces every inch of these newly formed falsified places, examining and reclaiming the origin of a completely new territory.
