Sculptural works

Sculptural works by Scacco articulate varying stages of the present tense, constantly disrupting her personal interpretation of time. Physically, they are an interruption of space. Conceptually, they are a bridge between her idealized memories and delusive future. The materials and installation balance delicacy and strength, intimidation and invitation.

In the case of Birds of Passage, 4,000 gold beads are used to articulate a world map bringing together the artist’s imagined past and future in a shrine to a fictitious present. In Richiama, Scacco recreates a historic loom from the Ellis Island archives to tell the story of her immigrant family. The Space Between uses 8,000 ball bearings held to a steel base by magnets and hung with wire in order to articulate a present both robust and fragile, strong but waiting to be broken.

Often echoing elements of her life at the moment of making, the sculptures, much like the present, fill the space between fictions.
