Compass Rose
Community Dinner

Oxy Arts
June 10, 2019

To celebrate the opening of Compass Rose, we hosted a dinner at Oxy Arts in appreciation of the 31 storytellers who generously contributed to the launch of (NE)LA Stories, the public archive co-founded in partnership with Compass Rose. There were a number of local sites frequentently referenced by participants including El Arco Iris, a beloved family-run restaurant that closed its doors in 2017. The owner’s son, a restaurateur himself, was kind enough to revive the El Arco Iris menu for one-night only for this very special community dinner.

A diverse group of community members and their loved ones gathered and shared stories of their memories, and their hopes for the future in this rapidly gentrifying and incredibly special pocket of Los Angeles.

Hear their interviews at (NE)LA Stories.
